“The Road To Hell Is Paved With Good Intentions“ by Vegyn
A couple of weekends ago, I discovered a really cool electronic album by Vegyn. I originally found his side project, Headache, which has some exciting concepts throughout its single album. It’s like really chilled-out DnB infused with spoken-word poetry. Honestly, I will write another article on that Headache album specifically, but for now… I’m going to focus on the main project.
Going into “The Road To Hell Is Paved With Good Intentions“, I did not expect to be in for such a wild ride. While the album itself with lyrical content and musicality is quite simple, yet at the same time… it isn’t.
There are constant very subtle but appreciated sound design choices. The music itself feels as if there is a genuine understanding of music production. Everything is done so tastefully, so much so… that most would miss it. I do appreciate it though. It’s like a breath of fresh air, in a new land.
Thematically the album seems to have a small overarching concept of religion. This can be taken in a multitude of ways, as some may see it as almost critical, while others can see it as very faithful. It’s very cool and left me debating internally on what the composer’s intentions were. Until I realized, that his intentions most likely did not matter, this album is supposed to make you think inwards, not out.
My favorite songs off the release are:
Another 9 Days
Halo Flip
A Dream Goes On Forever
The Path Less Travelled
Overall, this release is both very fun and very thought-provoking. It’s quite good and has so many ideas that I think there’s something to enjoy for anyone who listens.
